What is the difference between WiMER and BlueDial?

Both WiMER and BlueDial can wirelessly transmit measurement readings to smart devices or PCs. WiMER is just a transmitter, so users need to have a digimatic instrument for measurement and connect it to WiMER through a small data cable. On the other hand, BlueDial has a wireless transmitter integrated on the back of a digital dial indicator. All the wires are connected internally.

By changing different types of data cables, WiMER can be used as a universal solution for different gages: dial indicator, caliper, micrometer, etc, while BlueDial only works as an indicator. Hence, WiMER is more versatile than BlueDial.

What is the difference between WiMER 1, 2, 3, 4A, 4D, 5, and 6?

Based on different compatible instruments, we categorize WiMER devices in 4 series. Users should choose accordingly:

  • WiMER 1 is for Mitutoyo digimatic instruments, such as digital dial indicator, caliper, micrometer, height gage and so on.

  • WiMER 2 is for Fowler/Sylvac digital instruments with RS232 output.

  • WiMER 3 is for Mitutoyo linear gage with 90° phase shift output.

  • WiMER 4A and 4D are for the Mitutoyo electronic-sensor-based digital protractor 950-318.

  • WiMER 5 is for optical and magnetic encoders with 90° phase shift, differential square wave, RS422 (TTL) output.
  • WiMER 6 is for AC linear variable differential transducers (LVDTs).

What is the difference between BlueDial and BlueDial-LT?

The main difference between BlueDial and BlueDial-LT is the indicator used for integration with the Bluetooth transmitter. BlueDial is based on Mitutoyo digital indicators, while BlueDial-LT uses generic Motionics indicators. Hence, BlueDial has better build quality than BlueDial-LT and is expected to be more reliable, robust and durable. Additionally, BlueDial comes with a certificate of inspection from Mitutoyo while BlueDial-LT doesn’t.

Another minor difference is that BlueDial has a higher data transmission rate than BlueDial-LT: 10 samples/second vs 8 samples/second.

What is the difference between WiMER 1 and Mitutoyo U-Wave?

Data Transmission Mode: WiMER 1 can continuously stream data at 10 HZ to a receiving device, while U-Wave only sends data when a button is pressed.

Data Receiver: U-Wave requires a data receiver to work, while WiMER 1 can directly connect to iOS/Android mobile devices and only needs a miniature USB dongle for Windows PC.

Compatible Platforms: U-Wave can only work with Windows PC, whereas WiMER 1 is compatible with iOS, Android and Windows PC.

What are the compatible software platforms for WiMER and BlueDial?

WiMER and BlueDial are compatible with iOS, Android and Windows. LabVIEW on Windows is also on our list of compatible platforms.

Where can I download the PC software for my BlueDial or WiMER?

You can visit our Download page to download the latest PC software for BlueDial or WiMER.

Where can I download the LabVIEW VI for my BlueDial or WiMER?

Please contact us for the latest LabVIEW VI for BlueDial or WiMER.

Is Mitutoyo U-Wave compatible with your software?

No, since our products use a different wireless data transmission method than Mitutoyo, U-Wave is not compatible with our software.

Since you add a transmitter to the back of indicator, how do I hold BlueDial?

BlueDial has 3/8 inch stem and BlueDial-LT has an 8 mm stem. Both can be held by a magnetic base on stem.

If it needs to be fixed from the back, a lug back can be placed on top of the transmitter and fastened by 4 M2-0.4×20 screws.

What if I need to use a different type of tip for BlueDial?

Tips with 4-48UNF screw will work with BlueDial. Tips with M2.5 screw will work with BlueDial-LT.

What if I need to use a different type of indicator other than Mitutoyo 543-783/793?

WiMER1 is compatible with almost all Mitutoyo digital dial indicators with SPC output. You can directly use WiMER1 for other types of indicators.
If you prefer to not use an external transmitter, we can integrate a BlueDial transmitter on your indicator, too. Please contact us to discuss options for the specific model you have.

How is the battery life of your devices?

Both BlueDial and WiMER have rechargeable batteries. BlueDial and WiMER 1 have a 60-hour battery life, BlueDial-LT has a 50-hour battery life, WiMER 2 has 20-hours, WiMER 3, 4A, and 5 have 30-hours, and WiMER 6 has 15 hours.

My BlueDial doesn’t send value. What should I do?

Here are some tips for a quick fix:

  • Make sure both the dial indicator and Bluetooth transmitter are turned on (the display on front shows a number readout and the LED on the back turns on blue).

  • Fully charge BlueDial and try again.

  • If BlueDial is connected but there is no data coming through, turn the device off and on then connect again.

If none of the above methods work, please contact us for further help.

Motionics Shale Shaker Vibration Test Kit works with iVibraMeter for iPad, VibraTestPro for iPhone & iPad, and ShaleShaker for iPad, as well as several other calculator apps as vibration reference tools, such as VibraCalcVibeSpectra, REBvibe, and VibraUnits.

What’s the difference between the Wired 2CH Vibration Analysis Kit and the Single-Channel Vibration Analysis Kit?

The Wired 2CH Vibration Analysis Kit and the Single-Channel Vibration Analysis Kit share the same apps on iPhone/iPad and similar functionalities.

The Wired 2CH Vibration Analysis Kit comes with a regular low-power accelerometer that connects to iPhone/iPad through Motionics 2CH DAQ box, while the Single-Channel Vibration Analysis Kit includes a digital accelerometer that directly connects to the lightning port on iPhone/iPad without the need of any DAQ box.

Since the DAQ box has 2CH inputs, an extra accelerometer can be added to the Wired 2CH Vibration Analysis Kit to enable simultaneous 2-Channel data acquisition (for example, in a shale shaker vibration analysis application). The second channel can also be used for laser tachometer input in rotor balancing applications.

Can the Wired 2CH Vibration Analysis Kit be converted into a Wired 2CH Rotor Balancing Kit?

Yes, you can add a laser tachometer to convert Motionics’ Wired 2CH Vibration Analysis Kit into a Wired 2CH Rotor Balancing Kit. If you already have Motionics’ iPad vibration analysis kit and would like to add rotor balancing capability, contact us.

What types of balancing are supported by the iPad Rotor Balancing Kit?

The iPad Rotor Balancing Kit supports Single-Plane Single-Channel 4-Run Balancing, Single-Plane Two-Channel Balancing, Two-Plane Inbound Balancing, and Two-Plane Overhung Balancing.

How do you conduct two-plane balancing with the Wired 2CH Rotor Balancing Kit?

The iPad only accepts two channel inputs at the same time. In a rotor balancing application, one channel is reserved for optical signals from the laser tachometer, and the other channel is available for vibration signals from the accelerometer. That means only one accelerometer can be active at one time.

For two-plane balancing, the user can either always move the accelerometer around between the two testing planes or use a switch box to switch between two accelerometers installed on the two test planes.

What if I need to conduct vibration analysis/rotor balancing wirelessly?

The VibeSense Wireless Vibration Analyzer and VibeSense Wireless Rotor Balancer allow users to directly communicate with the sensors and perform balancing work on a smart phone or tablet using Bluetooth Low Energy.

What types of balancing are supported by the VibeSense Wireless Rotor Balancer?

The VibeSense Wireless Rotor Balancer Kit supports Single-Plane Single-Channel 4-Run Balancing, Single-Plane Two-Channel Balancing, Two-Plane Inbound Balancing, and Two-Plane Overhung Balancing.

What’s the difference between the iPad Vibration Analysis Kit and the VibeSense Wireless Vibration Analyzer?

These two kits share most of the same features in the VibraTestPro app.

The most significant difference is that the iPad Vibration Analysis Kit uses a wired acceleormeter to connect to iPhone/iPad through a DAQ box while the VibeSense Wireless Vibration Analyzer uses a wireless accelerometer to connect to iPhone/iPad via Bluetooth, completely getting rid of cables and any wire accessories.

Because of the difference in data transmission, these two kits work differently. When using the iPad Vibration Analysis Kit, vibration signal is continuously acquired and updated in real time in the app. When using the VibeSense Wireless Vibration Analyzer, the wireless accelerometer normally stays in standby mode; once it receives a data request from the app, it wakes up, collects a signal reading, transmits it via Bluetooth, and goes back to sleep again. Hence, vibration data is updated as snapshots instead of in real time in the app.
